About the role#
This internship focuses on applying AI and Large Language Model (LLM) technologies to improve electric utility network model validation, diagnostics, and automated remediation. You will contribute to intelligent model management solutions used by electric utilities to help electrify and decarbonize the world. This role is a full-time position available for Winter or Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Analyze large-scale power system model validation and diagnostic logs.
- Develop AI and LLM-based approaches to detect, classify, and prioritize modeling issues.
- Investigate network model inconsistencies and determine root causes.
- Build intelligent workflows that suggest corrective actions for model remediation.
- Support Distribution Automation functions, including power flow analysis, fault isolation, and service restoration.
- Integrate, configure, and test specific project subsets.
- Collaborate with software engineers, architects, and power system experts to prototype solutions.
- Design prompt engineering, retrieval, agentic, or workflow-based solutions.
- Evaluate AI-generated recommendations for accuracy and operational value.
- Document research findings and present results to engineering leadership.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a B.S. or M.S. program for Electrical Engineering (Power Systems specialization) or Computer Science.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale (or 4.0 on a 5.0 scale).
- Programming experience in Python and data analytics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States permanently without sponsorship.
Location & details#
- Locations: Atlanta, Georgia or Bellevue, Washington.
- Modality: Hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days remote).
- Compensation: $1,000 to $2,000 USD weekly.
- Relocation and housing assistance are available for eligible candidates living more than 50 miles from the work location.
