About the role#
This internship provides students with exposure to the GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy business. Interns join high-performance teams to support legacy fleet reactors, providing value through safe and efficient maintenance and inspection activities. The program begins in January 2027.
What you'll do#
- Work onsite with customers to perform maintenance and inspection tasks on Boiling Water Reactors.
- Attend entry-level technical training.
- Travel to domestic nuclear refueling outages and complete projects at the Wilmington, North Carolina site.
- Collaborate with experienced Field Service Engineers to ensure safe and error-free work.
- Work in radiation-controlled or radioactively contaminated areas as required.
- Adhere to rigorous safety standards, including the ability to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week when necessary.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a full-time undergraduate program with a primary major in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial, Environmental, or Computer Engineering, Physics, or Nursing.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA without rounding.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 70% to domestic plant sites.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb 10 flights of stairs twice per day.
- Strong customer service mindset.
- Ability to pass a respirator fit test, physical exam, and Fitness for Duty requirements to obtain unescorted access at a commercial nuclear power plant.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
