About the role#
Embedded software engineers are the link between software, hardware, and electronics at Formlabs. As an intern, you will work with electrical and systems engineers to build and define our embedded systems. You will write code for real products used by thousands of customers.
What you'll do#
- Design and implement embedded software applications from start to finish.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to improve the user experience of our products.
- Write and ship code that makes our custom hardware function.
- Find bugs and push the limits of 3D printing technology.
- Write code and tests for new printer features.
- Test software-hardware integration by working hands-on with the machines.
What you'll need#
- Experience working with embedded systems.
- Interest in firmware and embedded electronics.
- Willingness to work with C or C++.
- Comfort working with Python.
- Confidence in writing, testing, and debugging low-level code, from microcontrollers to embedded Linux.
- Development experience in Unix or Linux environments.
- A preference for working in a collaborative team setting.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
Location & details#
- Term: Winter 2027 (January to April).
- Location: On-site in Somerville, Massachusetts.
- Status: Full-time internship.
- Compensation: Paid position ($3,700 to $4,500 bi-weekly).
