About the role#
Flexsteel Industries is hiring a Furniture Design Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will join the Product Design team in Dubuque, Iowa, to work on furniture across multiple categories. This role focuses on the end-to-end product development process, from initial concepts to final manufacturing considerations.
What you'll do#
- Translate high-level furniture ideas into conceptual sketches.
- Create presentations, sketches, and lifestyle renderings to communicate design intent.
- Conduct research to build business knowledge before starting a design solution.
- Learn the principles of design for manufacturing.
- Focus on customer needs to create products that generate sales volume.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build organizational relationships.
- Propose ideas to help the company improve sustainability.
- Participate in intern-specific development sessions, community-building activities, and project presentations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, having completed at least your second year.
- Proficiency in design software including Solid Works, AutoCAD, Keyshot, Adobe Suite, and Sketchbook Pro.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A clear interest in furniture design.
