Thin Film Material Development Intern

About the role#

This internship focuses on the research and development of plasma sputtered coatings and their impact on perovskite solar device performance. You will work alongside development engineers to gain hands-on experience in thin film material development, process optimization, and device efficiency analysis.

What you'll do#

• Collaborate with development engineers to study plasma sputtered coatings.
• Assist with coating process development and conduct sensitivity studies of process KPIs in relation to coating properties.
• Analyze the interface interaction between coatings and subsequent wet layers to evaluate solar device efficiency and stability.
• Present your project summary and accomplishments to the leadership team at the end of the term.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Environmental Engineering, or Biology; a background in Material Science or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
• Knowledge of material surface engineering, plasma deposition, and thin film technologies.
• Experience in a lab environment utilizing materials analysis technologies, including thin film and nano material analysis, as well as optic and chemical characterization.
• Ability to work independently and hands-on with strong communication and documentation skills.
• Experience with perovskite solar cell device fabrication is a plus.

• Location: Perrysburg, Ohio, United States.
• Term: Fall 2026 (August – December).
• Modality: On-site, full-time.
• Compensation: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour.
• Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 37 pounds, use of personal protective equipment, and compliance with safety standards.
