About the role#
The University Enterprises, Inc. is hiring a student assistant to work with engineering staff on construction contract administration. This role provides practical experience in engineering practices and procedures under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer. You will split your time between office tasks and field assignments to support project management and construction operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the construction progress pay system and verify engineering calculations.
- Draft legally binding Contract Change Order documents and contract estimates.
- Research cost analysis data within construction contract files.
- Perform field engineering work including construction surveying and material sampling or testing.
- Verify field dimensions for roadway and structure construction.
- Maintain an inventory of technical support equipment and help prepare training materials.
- Monitor contract expenditures and process requests for extra work bills.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student in an accredited engineering program.
- Completion of at least two years of your engineering degree.
- A minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
- Ability to perform office and field assignments with occasional travel.
- Majors accepted include Civil, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Aerospace, Biomedical, and Environmental Engineering.

- Location: Pleasanton, California.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Employment Type: Part-time, temporary student position.
