About the role#
First Solar is looking for a Development Engineering Intern to join the team for the Fall 2026 term. This is a full-time, paid position based in Santa Clara, California. You will work on projects focused on sustainable energy, gain hands-on experience, and collaborate with team members to solve engineering problems.
What you'll do#
- Develop novel perovskite chemistries to improve photovoltaic device efficiency.
- Engineer advanced hole transport layers to help prevent device degradation.
- Perform electrical, optical, and materials characterization on thin films and devices.
- Present your technical findings and project outcomes to the leadership team at the end of the internship.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at least at the junior year level in an undergraduate program.
- A degree path in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions.
- Strong critical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills.
- Hands-on experience with wet chemistry processing is preferred.

- Location: Santa Clara, California.
- Term: August 31, 2026, to November 30, 2026.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $27.50 to $31.25 per hour.
- Requirements: This role requires physical tasks such as lifting up to 37 pounds and the use of personal protective equipment. You must be able to comply with all safety standards.
