About the role#
The Transmission System Planning Co-op supports the development and analysis of electric transmission system models. You will help evaluate system performance under various operating conditions and gain experience in utility planning, operations support, and reliability studies. This role involves working closely with senior engineers on technical projects.
What you'll do#
- Build and maintain transmission system models for planning studies.
- Collect and review forecasted load data.
- Gather and validate system parameters like equipment ratings, impedances, protection settings, and network topology.
- Support transmission system impact studies across service territories.
- Apply planning standards and regulatory criteria such as NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE.
- Perform steady-state, stability, short circuit, and electromagnetic transient analyses.
- Help automate study processes using analysis tools.
- Research disturbance events to support System Operations.
- Document study results, prepare technical reports, and create training materials.
- Respond to emergency situations as part of restoration assignments.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Electric Power Systems.
- Basic understanding of power system concepts, including modeling, load flow, and symmetrical components.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment with effective organizational skills.
- Initiative and an eagerness to learn in a technical setting.
- Exposure to software such as PSSE, ASPEN, or PSCAD is a plus.

- Status: Full time, on-site.
