About the role#
As a Student Optician, you will work in a retail eye care environment to support customers and assist with optical tasks. You will gain hands-on experience under the guidance of a licensed Optician while learning to manage store operations and provide quality service.
What you'll do#
- Greet customers and help them understand how to shop in the store.
- Educate customers on eyewear products, care tips, and available services.
- Assist customers in selecting frames and lenses that fit their lifestyle and prescription needs.
- Take and record measurements for eyewear.
- Adjust, fit, and repair eyewear under the supervision of an Optician.
- Ensure finished products meet quality standards.
- Troubleshoot vision issues with guidance.
- Use software to input customer and prescription data.
- Operate the cashier terminal and process payments.
- Maintain store appearance, clean displays, and organize inventory.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current registration in a provincial licensure program or equivalent schooling.
- Previous experience in retail or the optical field.
- Knowledge of provincial licensing guidelines and optical theory.
- Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Familiarity with computers, calculators, and cash registers.
- Awareness of current fashion trends.
- Prior sales training is helpful.
