About the role#
Celestica is looking for a student intern to support manufacturing processes within the Materials Engineering Laboratory in Newmarket, Ontario. This 16-month internship offers hands-on experience in the electronics manufacturing industry, focusing on reliability and failure analysis testing. This is an on-site position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Prepare cross sections of electronic printed circuit assemblies and perform metallurgical assessments of solder joints.
- Conduct incoming quality inspections and qualifications for printed circuit boards and components.
- Support manufacturing failure analysis and process qualifications for electronic assemblies.
- Write technical reports and interface with internal customers.
- Apply electronics industry and customer standards to evaluate quality.
- Perform hand soldering of electronic circuit assemblies and components.
- Operate laboratory equipment, including x-ray machines, scanning electron microscopes, optical microscopes, cross-sectioning saws, grinders, and polishers.
- Support the Mechanical Engineering Test Lab and the Environment Chamber Lab as needed.
- Potentially operate FTIR, Ion Chromatography, and other chemical testing equipment.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a formal 16-month University Internship or Co-Op program.
- Completing the 3rd year of a 4-year Materials Engineering program or the 4th year of a 5-year Materials Engineering program.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work autonomously once trained.
- Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status in Canada.
- Must meet all requirements under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
