About the role#
Black & McDonald Limited offers a hands-on learning experience for students within our Utilities Construction division. You will work alongside experienced professionals to gain practical skills that supplement your academic goals. This role involves a mix of office-based tasks and time spent at off-site jobsites.
What you'll do#
- Maintain and create project documentation, including safety records, material logs, and change orders.
- Interpret project contract documents and drawings to understand client requirements.
- Support the Service Division by developing technical solutions for clients.
- Assist with project scheduling, planning, and equipment sourcing.
- Build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing and information.
- Prepare quantity take-offs to assist with the estimating process.
- Help with invoicing and the preparation of supporting documentation.
- Participate in client meetings and various project-related activities.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or completion of a degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- A strong academic record.
- Previous work or volunteer experience.
- A positive attitude and an enthusiasm for learning.
- Availability starting in January 2027 for a 4, 8, or 12 month placement.
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and professional reference check.

- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $21-$24 per hour, depending on education and experience.
