About the role#
Epic Games is hiring a Machine Learning Intern to join the Special Projects and Epic Research Group. You will work with research scientists and programmers to build machine learning models across areas like player safety, game agents, and developer tools. This position is open to current PhD students or recent graduates who have finished their degree within the last 12 months.
What you'll do#
- Create machine learning models for game agents, player safety, and world generation.
- Collaborate with research scientists and programmers on applied research problems.
- Manage data analysis and data creation tasks with support from an internal team.
- Design, implement, and run experiments for models from start to finish.
- Gain experience with programming tasks related to deploying models at scale.
What you'll need#
- An ongoing or recently completed PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, AI, or a related field. Recent MSc graduates in these fields are also eligible.
- Experience building models or algorithms in computer vision, natural language processing, or speech and audio processing.
- Hands-on knowledge of deep learning methods such as Transformers, LLM fine-tuning, and diffusion models.
- Strong coding skills in Python and the standard machine learning stack like PyTorch, NumPy, and scikit-learn.
- Game development experience in C++ or C++ is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is based on-site in Montreal, Quebec.
- The internship lasts between 6 and 12 months with flexible start dates throughout 2026 and 2027.
- This is a paid, full-time position.
- You must have existing legal authorization to work in Canada for the duration of the internship. Visa sponsorship is not available.
