    About the role#

    The International Program is accepting applications for a part-time science extern for the spring 2027 term. This role focuses on the impacts of energy projects, environmental litigation in different countries, and research on climate change and air quality. You will work under the supervision of the Staff Scientist. This externship is unpaid and requires you to receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement through your school.

    What you'll do#

    • Research and analyze energy projects and policies, then draft memos summarizing your findings.
    • Support the effort to compile and synthesize work across various geographical teams.
    • Assist with key litigation tasks like cite checking.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a graduate program for environmental science or a related field, with a graduation date between May 2027 and May 2028.
    • Eligibility to receive academic credit or fulfill a graduation requirement through this externship.
    • A commitment of at least 10 hours per week for 12 to 16 weeks.
    • Working knowledge of the MS Office Suite and comfort learning new tools.
    • Strong research skills, including the ability to conduct scientific literature reviews and perform basic quantitative data analyses.
    • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
    • A demonstrated commitment to the values of justice, excellence, inclusion, and partnership.

    Location & details#

    • This role is based in San Francisco, California. You may work remotely within the U.S. or on a hybrid schedule from the San Francisco office.
