About the role#
This is a returning internship and co-op program for Summer 2027. You will work on real-world projects alongside experienced engineers across various departments, including Transmission, Distribution, Environmental Health and Safety, Regulated and Renewable Energy, Project Management and Construction, Natural Gas, Nuclear, and New Nuclear Generation.
What you'll do#
- Manage equipment reliability and perform analysis and design for transmission lines, structures, protection and control systems, and electrical components.
- Manage and maintain equipment, assist with grid planning, complete designs for equipment installation, and provide oversight of the distribution system.
- Support staff professionals with inspections, groundwater remediation, and monitoring projects, as well as state and federal environmental regulations and permitting.
- Work on generation facility projects focused on safety, efficiency, system performance, reliability, cost, and environmental compliance.
- Assist in the development, design, construction, and startup of new power generation assets, including work on early site permit applications for new nuclear generation.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Nuclear, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, or Industrial and Systems Engineering.
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Engineering Technology or Construction Management.
- Must not graduate prior to August 2026.
- Cumulative college GPA of 2.75 or higher (3.0 or higher preferred).
- Previous Duke Energy intern or co-op experience.
- Previous engineering work experience.
- Technical proficiency in computers, software, and engineering applications.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with others from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to deliver results through effective prioritization, planning, and execution.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and decision-making skills.

- Locations include Charlotte, NC; Arden, NC; Raleigh, NC; Goldsboro, NC; Owensville, IN; Plainfield, IN; Edwardsport, IN; Cayuga, IN; Noblesville, IN; Ocala, FL; Lake Mary, FL; Cincinnati, OH; and Union, KY.
