About the role#
Duke Energy is hiring Engineering Co-ops for the Winter 2027 term. This program offers students the chance to gain professional experience across various departments, including transmission, distribution, project management, and environmental health. You will work alongside staff engineers on real-world projects, helping to maintain grid reliability and support the transition to cleaner energy sources. We encourage students to participate in multiple sessions to build a diverse skill set and explore different career paths within the company.
What you'll do#
- Manage equipment reliability and perform analysis and design of transmission lines and structures.
- Undertake short-term responsibilities in electric distribution design, planning, and operations.
- Develop, design, construct, and startup renewable solar, bulk energy storage, and power generation projects.
- Perform inspection and oversight of groundwater related environmental projects.
- Evaluate load additions and perform transmission-level analysis and model development.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, or Environmental Engineering.
- A graduation date no earlier than May 2027.
- A cumulative college GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the full 16-week duration of the co-op.

- Locations: Charlotte and Raleigh, NC; Owensville, Plainfield, Edwardsport, Cayuga, and Noblesville, IN; Ocala and Lake Mary, FL; Cincinnati, OH; Union, KY; Asheville and Goldsboro, NC.
- Modality: Hybrid and on-site opportunities are available.
- Duration: 16 weeks (January 2027 to May 2027).
- Status: This is a paid, full-time position.
