About the role#
Duke Energy offers an Engineering Internship and Co-op Program for the Summer 2027 term. This program provides students with hands-on experience working on real-world projects alongside staff engineers. Participants engage in various departments including Transmission, Distribution, Environmental Health and Safety, Regulated and Renewable Energy, Project Management and Construction, Natural Gas, and Nuclear.
What you'll do#
- Manage equipment reliability and perform analysis and design of transmission lines and structures.
- Assist with grid planning, sectionalization, and complete designs for equipment install and replacement.
- Support inspection and oversight of groundwater related environmental projects.
- Develop, design, construct, and startup renewable solar and bulk energy storage projects.
- Collaborate with teams on generation facility safety, system performance, and environmental compliance.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Environmental, or Computer Engineering.
- Graduation date no earlier than August 2027.
- Cumulative college GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship.

- Locations: Charlotte and Arden, NC; Raleigh and Goldsboro, NC; Owensville, Plainfield, Noblesville, Edwardsport, and Cayuga, IN; Ocala and Lake Mary, FL; Cincinnati, OH; Union, KY.
