About the role#
As a Cable and Harnessing Intern, you will support the development of high-reliability interconnect solutions for mission-critical systems. You will work on hardware designed for demanding environments, including space and defense platforms. This internship provides hands-on experience across the full product lifecycle, from initial concept and trade studies to prototyping and final delivery.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop cable harnesses, interconnects, and connector assemblies for ruggedized systems.
- Partner with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to define project requirements.
- Apply knowledge of MIL-STD connectors and IPC Class 2 and 3 standards.
- Perform trade studies, tolerance analyses, and material selection activities.
- Create and refine 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with production teams and suppliers to support builds and resolve design issues.
- Implement, test, and analyze system performance, including generating test reports with data plots and conclusions.
- Contribute ideas to continuous improvement efforts for design processes.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program in Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- A strong interest in cable and harness design.
- A systems-level mindset that considers electrical, mechanical, and manufacturability trade-offs.
- Motivation to learn and take ownership of design tasks.
- Creativity in solving interconnect challenges.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- A strong work ethic with the ability to work independently or in a team.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and project risks.
- Strong computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
