About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering & System Packaging Intern at Draper, you will contribute to technical projects that address national challenges. You will apply engineering principles to design and analyze components while working alongside engineers and technicians to fabricate and assemble hardware systems. This internship provides exposure to programs involving military defense, space exploration, and biomedical engineering.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and improve engineering solutions for complex technical problems.
- Implement, test, and perform analysis on systems while providing documentation support.
- Create and present test reports that include plots, tables, evaluation criteria, and conclusions.
- Use 3D CAD software like SolidWorks or PTC Creo for detailed designs and finite element software such as Ansys for performance simulations.
- Collaborate with machine shop operators, rapid prototyping labs, and circuit card assembly facilities to fabricate parts.
- Complete assignments to build practical knowledge of engineering processes, equipment, and systems.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program in Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong computer skills including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- A strong work ethic with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments, risks, and vulnerabilities.
- You may be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
