About the role#
Northrop Grumman is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join the Naval & Oceanic Systems business unit in Annapolis, Maryland. This role focuses on the development, testing, and sustainment of subsea systems. You will gain exposure to technologies such as uncrewed undersea vehicles, remotely operated vehicles, acoustic sensors, and platform integration.
What you'll do#
- Perform concept development and technical planning for undersea hardware.
- Execute design development, analysis, and integration testing.
- Solve complex engineering problems and develop solutions that meet project requirements.
- Collaborate with team members to prioritize tasks.
- Document engineering processes and procedures for small to medium production quantities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related STEM degree.
- Must be enrolled full-time for the Fall 2027 semester.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Preferred: A cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher.
- Preferred: Proficiency with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, GD&T, and design for manufacturing.
- Preferred: Familiarity with undersea engineering topics such as sonar systems, pressure vessels, or environmental corrosion.
- Preferred: Active U.S. Government Secret or TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
