About the role#
Dominion Energy is seeking System Protection Technician Interns for the Summer 2027 term. This position provides hands-on experience in electric transmission and distribution. You will work alongside technicians to learn about substation electrical equipment, high-voltage diagnostic testing, protective relays, and control circuit troubleshooting. This role is based at our district offices in Woodbridge and Fredericksburg, Virginia.
What you'll do#
- Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
- Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
- Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
- Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
- Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year degree program in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technology field.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Strong problem-solving skills regarding mechanical or electrical equipment.
- Solid math, technical, and mechanical aptitude.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- A weight of 290 pounds or less due to equipment safety limits.
