About the role#
Dominion Energy is seeking a System Protection Technician Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This position is based in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. You will work alongside experienced technicians to learn about substation electrical equipment, high-voltage diagnostics, protective relays, and control circuits. This is a hands-on role focused on field operations and technical maintenance.
What you'll do#
- Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
- Assist with infrared scans, instrument checkout, and equipment repair.
- Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
- Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
- Shadow technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year degree program in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Mechatronic Technology.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- An anticipated graduation date of Winter 2027 or later.
- Strong problem-solving skills related to mechanical or electrical equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Solid math, technical, and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and a weight restriction of 290 pounds due to equipment limits.
