About the role#
The Corporate Risk Engineering group provides loss control support across all business units and acts as the engineering interface for our insurers. You will join a team involved in the transition to renewable energy, including offshore wind, hydrogen blending, and battery energy storage. This role offers exposure to industrial fire protection hazards and systems, such as clean agents, CO2, foam, and water mist systems. You will work alongside licensed fire protection engineers to apply academic concepts to real-world risk reduction.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the development of fire protection system specifications, design, and bid evaluations.
- Assist with construction walkdowns and the review of system final acceptance tests.
- Apply engineering principles to develop practical risk reduction solutions.
- Coordinate with other departments, contractors, and vendors to gather information and manage project tasks.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time student in an ABET accredited Bachelor’s degree program in Fire Protection Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- An anticipated graduation date between Fall 2027 and Fall 2029.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- A valid driver's license.
- Ability to apply engineering theories to industrial problems and strong communication skills.

- This position is based in Richmond, Virginia.
- The role follows a hybrid work schedule with three days in the office and two days of teleworking.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
