About the role#
The Electric Transmission department at Dominion Energy is looking for engineering interns to join the System Operations Center. This team balances supply and demand on the Bulk Electric System to keep the grid operational. You will work within either the Operations Planning or SOC Services teams to support grid reliability and operator development.
What you'll do#
- Assist with transmission reliability studies and perform contingency analyses.
- Coordinate outages and support real-time grid operations.
- Help maintain training simulators used to prepare operators for real-world scenarios.
- Support operator training and continuing education programs.
- Assist with emergency restoration planning and regulatory compliance activities.
- Contribute to data and analytics solutions or operational improvement initiatives.
- Work on special projects that improve tools and coordination across the center.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Graduation date of Fall 2028 or later.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Basic understanding of electricity and power systems.
- Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Effective time management and the ability to work well independently or in a team.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
- Roles are on-site at the Magnolia System Operations Center in Richmond, VA or the Innsbrook facility in Glen Allen, VA.
- Sponsorship for work visas is not available for this position.
