About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in Electric Transmission Field Operations at the Lincoln Park district office. You will work alongside experienced field engineers and system protection technicians to support the secure and reliable operation of the electric grid. This role focuses on power systems, protective relaying, and field engineering.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of protective relay systems.
- Participate in the maintenance and troubleshooting of substation communication systems.
- Engage in field inspections and hands-on technical work with experienced engineers.
- Learn how protective systems safeguard grid reliability and respond to faults.
- Collaborate with professionals across engineering and operations teams.
- Gain exposure to real-world challenges in system protection and field operations.
What you'll need#
- Must be a full-time student majoring in an ABET accredited Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related program.
- Graduation date must be Winter 2027 or later.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals, and theory.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Analytical, abstract thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with computer software programs.
- Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and work effectively within a team environment.

- Compensation: $23.00 - $29.00 per hour.
