About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap that covers pharmacy operations across store, district, and regional levels. This role focuses on developing your skills in preparation for a future pharmacist position while supporting the pharmacy team.
What you'll do#
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures and pharmacy workflow procedures including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Assist the team to ensure prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly.
- Provide patient service, including offering to counsel and fielding medical questions under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers.
- Perform inventory tasks such as cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
- Deliver health care services like immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted.
- Collect and document patient information.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by state regulations.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Strong communication, active listening, and mathematical reasoning skills.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly between duties, and confirm prescription accuracy.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, lift, scan, and bag items, and perform tasks requiring close visual acuity.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service.
- Preferred: Ability to become immunization certified and work across multiple store locations.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
