About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will complete a comprehensive training roadmap, including Key Learning Experiences, to prepare for a future Pharmacist role. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to gain an overview of store, district, and regional operations while assisting the pharmacy team in delivering patient care.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap focusing on Key Learning Experiences.
- Assist the pharmacy team with prescription fulfillment by following workflow procedures at workstations such as production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care.
- Offer to counsel patients and field medical questions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and call prescribers to clarify or facilitate medication changes.
- Provide coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Perform inventory activities such as putting away deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and company standard operating procedures.
- Deliver patient health care services including immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse vaccine reactions, reporting events as required.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in mathematical reasoning for tasks like calculating dosage and supply.
- Strong attention to detail and focus to ensure prescription accuracy.
- Ability to resolve problems and communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Physical ability to remain mobile and upright for extended periods.
- Ability to perform tasks such as lifting, scanning, bagging, reaching overhead, and stooping.
- Close visual acuity for tasks like reading labels and viewing computer terminals.
- Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
