About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gaining a firsthand look at store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on developing your skills to prepare for future responsibilities as a pharmacist.
What you'll do#
- Support the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly.
- Follow standard operating procedures and workflow protocols at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service to patients, including fielding medical questions and offering counseling under pharmacist supervision.
- Communicate with prescribers to take telephonic prescriptions or clarify medication details.
- Complete basic inventory tasks, such as cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and processing deliveries.
- Deliver patient health services, including immunizations, point-of-care testing, and patient education.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse vaccine reactions while maintaining accurate patient records.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team members as you gain experience.
- Travel to other stores within the market to support business needs as required.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Strong focus and attention to detail when verifying prescription information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with active listening abilities.
- Mathematical reasoning skills for calculating dosages and supplies.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks including reaching, stooping, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Preferred: At least one year of experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and the ability to become immunization certified.
