About the role#
As a Student Respiratory Tech, you will provide basic respiratory care services under the direction of a licensed respiratory therapist or physician. This role focuses on supporting patient care through treatment assistance, equipment maintenance, and clinical monitoring.
What you'll do#
- Assist licensed respiratory therapists with the preparation and administration of basic treatments like oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, and incentive spirometry.
- Observe and monitor patients during therapy, reporting any adverse reactions or unusual findings to your supervisor.
- Clean, maintain, and set up respiratory equipment while following infection control and safety protocols.
- Record treatment administration and patient responses in medical records.
- Prepare supplies and ensure equipment is functional and properly stocked.
- Educate patients and their families on basic respiratory exercises and therapies.
What you'll need#
- Completion of a Respiratory Therapy Technician training program or relevant coursework in healthcare is preferred.
- Up to 1 year of experience in respiratory care or a related field is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification is required within 30 days of your hire date.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work under supervision.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and your healthcare team.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and equipment maintenance.
