About the role#
This Student Nurse Intern position is based at The Orthopedic Hospital in Fort Wayne. It is designed for students in their final year of an accredited nursing program. You will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses to gain inpatient experience in an orthopedic setting.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with delegated patient care services and keep the care environment safe and organized.
- Collect and record patient data such as vital signs, height, weight, and intake/output.
- Help patients with activities of daily living including meals, bathing, grooming, and linen changes.
- Support patient mobility by assisting with positioning, ambulating, and the use of aids like walkers or wheelchairs.
- Perform blood glucose monitoring via finger sticks and collect urine or stool samples.
- Communicate patient information to the care team and maintain documentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Nursing program.
- Ability to obtain Basic Life Support certification within 90 days of hire.
- Prior experience in an acute care setting is preferred but not required.
- A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) certification is preferred.
