About the role#
Barrett Paving Materials is seeking a QA/QC Intern to join our team in the Mid-West Central region. You will gain hands-on experience in materials testing, process verification, and compliance standards. This role focuses on helping our projects meet strict industry and regulatory requirements through daily quality control support.
What you'll do#
- Perform field and laboratory testing on asphalt, aggregates, and concrete.
- Monitor and document daily quality control processes at paving and construction sites.
- Inspect installed work to verify it meets project specifications and standards.
- Collect and prepare samples for laboratory analysis.
- Keep accurate records of test results, inspections, and quality documentation.
- Learn QA/QC procedures, including material certifications and traceability.
- Help resolve quality issues and share findings with field and management teams.
- Work with project managers, supervisors, and safety personnel to ensure project compliance.
- Support initiatives to improve quality systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science, or a related field.
- A strong interest in construction materials, paving, and quality assurance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors on active construction sites.
- Previous experience in a laboratory or quality control environment is a plus.
