About the role#
As a Pharmacy Student, you will support pharmacy operations under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role focuses on the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of compounded sterile and non-sterile products within a pediatric hospital setting. You will ensure that all medications are handled according to strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.
What you'll do#
- Prepare patient-specific and non-patient specific medication doses, ensuring accurate identification, labeling, and storage.
- Manage the compounding of non-sterile and sterile products in accordance with USP 795, USP 797, and USP 800 standards.
- Maintain inventory control, including the secure storage and monitoring of narcotics and floor-stock medications.
- Perform accurate repackaging of medications into unit-dose formats.
- Participate in hospital and departmental Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
- Ensure all documentation and recordkeeping, such as preparation logs and controlled substance records, are completed accurately.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and department regulations, as well as hospital dress code and PPE requirements.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Nursing, Health Administration, Public Health, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
- Strong calculation skills and basic computer proficiency, including experience with Windows operating systems and word processors.
- Ability to practice in both non-sterile and sterile product production environments.
- Previous experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy is preferred.
