This position offers pharmacy students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a hospital setting under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. You will support pharmacy operations by preparing, dispensing, and distributing medications, ensuring compliance with strict safety and quality standards. This role involves working in both non-sterile and sterile product production environments to support patient care.
What you'll do#
- Accurately prepare patient-specific and non-patient specific doses, including non-sterile and sterile compounded products.
- Ensure all medications are identified, measured, labeled, and stored according to standard operating procedures.
- Verify that medication concentrations and volumes match order details and obtain pharmacist verification prior to dispensing.
- Manage inventory control, including the secure storage and handling of narcotics and floor-stock medications.
- Maintain clean room environments and equipment according to USP 795, 797, and 800 standards.
- Perform documentation and recordkeeping for preparation logs, controlled substance records, and health status boards.
- Participate in hospital and departmental Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and department regulations, including strict dress code and PPE requirements for sterile areas.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy is preferred.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Windows operating systems and word processors.
- Strong calculation skills.
- Ability to practice in non-sterile and sterile product production.
- Ability to meet all training and competency requirements, including aseptic technique recertification.
