About the role#
The Patient Financial Services Intern will work under the guidance of the Manager of Patient Financial Services to learn the fundamentals of medical billing and collections. This role focuses on insurance payer requirements, patient advocacy, and the revenue cycle process.
What you'll do#
- Contact insurance and government agencies to verify eligibility, process authorizations, and discuss billing requirements.
- Prepare and submit clean insurance claims to payers through electronic and paper methods.
- Monitor the status of claims and follow up on any that are unpaid or rejected to ensure reimbursement.
- Review medical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses and procedures.
- Document all collection activities and correspondence with payers within the billing system.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Current participation in an education-related internship through a certified program.
- General PC skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of general office procedures and the ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Pursuing a degree in Health Administration.

- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- The role is based on-site in Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona.
- The position operates on a rolling term schedule.
