About the role#
As a Patient Financial Services Intern, you will receive training in the fundamental aspects of medical billing and collections. This role focuses on insurance payer requirements, patient advocacy, and the revenue cycle process under the guidance of the Manager of Patient Financial Services.
What you'll do#
- Contact insurance and government agencies to obtain eligibility and process authorizations.
- Prepare and submit clean insurance claims to payers electronically and by paper.
- Monitor claim status and follow up on unpaid or rejected claims to ensure reimbursement.
- Review medical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- Document collection activity and payer correspondence within the billing system.
- Communicate with insurance companies to resolve denied, delayed, or underpaid claims.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current participation in an education-related internship through a certified program.
- General knowledge of office procedures and office equipment.
- PC skills with experience in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Experience with email and web navigation.
- Majors in Health Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting are preferred.
