About the role#
This role focuses on surface and groundwater sampling and data collection at the Albian Oil Sands Site. You will work alongside the environment team to support their portfolios, manage assigned environmental projects, and contribute to regulatory reporting documentation.
What you'll do#
- Collect surface water samples and perform groundwater purging and sampling following QA/QC protocols.
- Conduct water quality testing and field measurements, including pH, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity.
- Prepare sample bottles and manage Chain of Custody documentation for transport and identification.
- Perform environmental inspections and wetland monitoring activities.
- Complete data entry, validation, and reporting tasks.
- Assist team members with field work and help prepare supporting data for regulatory reports.
- Carry out an assigned environmental project and present your findings to the team.
- Follow all safety requirements and promote safe work practices.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate program, or a master's program, in Biology, Natural Sciences, Environmental Studies, or Earth Sciences, with a focus on water resources.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract.
- Physical ability to handle field work, including carrying coolers and samples weighing up to 50 lbs, and working outside on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
- Database experience is an asset.
- Previous experience with environmental field work is an asset.
- Previous experience with UTV/ATV, watercraft, or oil sands operations is considered an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Albian Oil Sands Site, Fort McMurray, Alberta.
- Term length: 8 months.
- Start dates: January 2027 or May 2027.
- Schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off (Monday to Thursday), 10 hours per day.
- This is a paid, full-time, on-site position.
