About the role#
The CITGO Lemont Refinery is seeking an Environmental Intern for a 12-week summer program. You will learn refinery work processes and safety practices while assisting with environmental management strategies. This role involves working alongside business units and HSE professionals to reduce risk and maintain environmental compliance. You will complete a final summary and presentation covering your work at the end of the term.
What you'll do#
- Assist with daily environmental tasks and air permit management.
- Support the implementation of SWPPP, NPDES water permits, and hazardous waste management programs.
- Participate in HSE meetings and incident investigations.
- Interact with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to resolve environmental issues.
- Research environmental regulations and new technologies.
- Develop and deliver environmental training and lead team meetings.
- Provide technical support to facility environmental teams.
- Identify and track leading indicator metrics to address hazards and prevent incidents.
- Ensure post-incident lessons learned are implemented.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program for Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- Sophomore status or higher.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week.
- Valid driver license.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- TWIC eligibility.
