About the role#
This is an 8-month, full-time summer internship for students interested in environmental monitoring. You will work directly with the Aquatics Coordinator at our Albian or Horizon Oil Sands sites. This is a safety-sensitive position.
What you'll do#
- Conduct extensive field work for amphibian, fisheries, and wildlife monitoring.
- Track and record all field and laboratory data.
- Identify, manage, and track terrestrial wildlife to support the wildlife management system.
- Assist with surface water quality monitoring and wildlife regulatory reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with Environmental Specialists, Regulatory Coordinators, and researchers during site work.
- Generate data and forms for regulatory submissions and support environmental compliance inspections.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the 3rd or 4th year of a Biology, Natural Science, or Environmental program.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract.
- Previous experience with ATVs or watercraft is an asset.
- Prior environmental or oil sands experience is an asset.
Location & details#
- Location: Fort McMurray, AB (Albian or Horizon Oil Sands Site).
- Term: 8 months, beginning May 2027.
- Schedule: Choice of 4 days on, 3 days off (10 hours/day) or 8 days on, 6 days off (10 hours/day).
- Compensation: Paid position with company-sponsored fly-in/fly-out options from Calgary or Edmonton.
- Housing: Students are responsible for their own accommodations during the work term.
