About the role#
This is a 12-month internship for an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering student. You will work at the Albian Oil Sands site in Fort McMurray. This is a safety-sensitive position with a shift schedule of 4 days on and 3 days off, working 10 hours per day from Monday to Thursday. The term begins in January 2027.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Instrumentation Engineering Team with operations, maintenance, and construction support.
- Collaborate with project and operations teams to align work with site requirements.
- Review asset data to identify opportunities for improved maintenance frequency and equipment uptime.
- Help engineers produce engineering and construction work packages.
- Gather field measurements and data to support engineering tasks.
- Work with the E&I maintenance team to troubleshoot field instrumentation and automated valve performance.
- Assist construction and maintenance teams with field installation and commissioning queries.
- Check designs created by engineering contractors and help evaluate equipment purchase specifications.
- Coordinate with various departments to resolve engineering issues.
- Create and maintain project deliverables such as lessons learned logs, requests for information, and technical deviation requests.
- Develop engineering drawings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or graduation within the last year.
- A valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license or equivalent out-of-province license.
- A reasonably clean driver's abstract.
- Ability to safely operate work trucks.
- Previous engineering or field experience is considered an asset.
