About the role#
As a Radiation Analysis Intern, you will join the Advanced Technologies group to help develop analytical models for radiation shielding, criticality analysis, and dose assessment. You will work alongside experienced engineers to support the design of terrestrial or marine-based nuclear reactor systems.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate design tradeoffs for reactor shielding.
- Create radiation dose maps to assess the effectiveness of shielding solutions.
- Build calculational tools to improve the efficiency of analysis workflows.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an engineering degree program.
- Completion of mid-level nuclear engineering coursework, specifically in neutronics and radiation physics.
- Strong interest in nuclear engineering or radiation health physics.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Experience with nuclear analysis tools like MCNP, SCALE, or Attila is preferred.
- Proficiency with Linux, CAD software such as Solidworks or SpaceClaim, and a programming language is helpful.

- This internship is located on-site in Lynchburg, Virginia.
- The term is for Summer 2027.
- This is a full-time, paid position.
- Compensation ranges from $25.05 to $31.83 per hour, depending on market factors and performance.
