About the role#
As a Core Neutronics Intern, you will join the Advanced Technologies group to support the research and development of nuclear reactors and propulsion systems. You will work alongside engineers and designers to build analytical models and evaluate the performance of nuclear systems. This role is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Develop analytical models for nuclear reactor neutronics or thermal performance.
- Assess operating characteristics using analysis software.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to make design decisions for terrestrial or space-based nuclear reactor systems.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a nuclear engineering degree program.
- Completed coursework in thermodynamics, fluid flow, and nuclear engineering, specifically including neutronics.
- A strong interest in the field of nuclear engineering.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Experience with nuclear analysis tools like MCNP, OPENMC, or SIMULATE/CASMO is a plus.

- Location: Lynchburg, Virginia.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Pay: $25.05 to $31.83 per hour.
