About the role#
BWXT is looking for an Applications Development Intern to work on-site at our secured facility in Erwin, Tennessee. This is a year-round, part-time position designed to provide hands-on experience with software development and maintenance. You will work alongside experienced developers in an agile environment, focusing on applying technology to solve business problems. Working hours are flexible to align with your class schedule.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using C#.NET Framework, and .NET Core.
- Work under the direction of a project lead, typically an NFS Programmer/Analyst.
- Develop applications in alignment with established specifications and requirements.
- Ensure all applications are functional, secure, and compliant with company policies and standards.
- Participate in requirements gathering, test plan creation and execution, and documentation management.
- Coordinate user acceptance testing with end users and key stakeholders.
- Perform other essential duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- Completion of at least one year of school, including the first-year computer science curriculum.
- At least two years of school remaining.
- Desire to work part-time throughout the semesters.
- Experience with Object-Oriented programming.
- Familiarity with C#.NET Core.NET Framework, ASP.NET, SQL Server, and database design.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas in business-friendly language.
- Ability to work under guidelines and procedures.
- Enthusiasm for contributing to team success.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q clearance.

- Location: Erwin, Tennessee (On-site).
- Term: Rolling, part-time.
- Pay: $26.81 - $35.48 per hour.
