About the role#
The Buckner internship provides hands-on experience in human services, ministry, and nonprofit operations. You will work directly with our programs in Amarillo to support children and families in vulnerable situations. This is an educational placement intended to meet university practicum or field experience requirements.
What you'll do#
- Support family strengthening and case management services.
- Assist with community outreach and program delivery.
- Engage in volunteer and group initiatives.
- Contribute to program administration, research, or special projects.
- Observe trauma-informed and strengths-based practices in action.
- Build a working knowledge of nonprofit ministry in an underserved community.
- Develop skills for working with children and families.
- Collaborate with team members across departments.
- Build a professional network with fellow interns and staff.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an accredited college or university, pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.
- A strong academic record.
- Ability to commit to 16-24 hours per week.
- Flexibility for some evening availability.
- Access to your own housing and transportation to the internship site.
- Comfort working with children and adults of diverse ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, and religious beliefs.
- Ability to provide clear written and verbal instructions.
- Preferred, but not required: Bilingual in Spanish.

- Term: Winter 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
- Academic focus: We welcome students from Sociology, Public Health, Communications, Marketing, and related fields.
