About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience in building science through a six-month program. You will work alongside licensed architects and engineers, gaining practical exposure to engineering applications and professional standards. The role involves a mix of field work and data analysis while you learn procedures related to ICC, NFPA, ADA, ASTM, ANSI, and AAMA standards.
What you'll do#
- Collect and test construction material samples from pavements, dams, and buildings using methods like coring, ground penetrating radar, and non-destructive testing.
- Support vibration monitoring by deploying and servicing field monitors, collecting data, and processing results.
- Perform building condition surveys by documenting field conditions through notes, measurements, and photography.
- Work on-site at various construction locations, which may include weekends and overtime as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an architecture, civil-structural engineering, or construction management degree program.
- Ability to commit to full-time employment from May through November or December.
- A valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and work on job sites that require walking, standing, or climbing.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including overnight stays.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
