    About the role#

    This externship program provides 3rd and 4th year veterinary students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a clinic environment. You will work directly with patients and engage with pet parents under the guidance of our doctors and veterinary team. This program is designed for students to sharpen clinical skills and explore interests in both primary and urgent care.

    What you'll do#

    • Interact with pet parents and review medical records.
    • Take patient history and perform physical exams.
    • Observe the development of treatment plans, including estimate creation and presentation.
    • Assist the treatment team with administering medications, SQ fluids, and IV fluids.
    • Place urinary catheters in male dogs and draw blood from Cephalic and Saphenous veins on stable animals.
    • Use ultrasound to identify anatomy.
    • Scrub in and assist in procedures under full supervision.
    • Prepare and review ear cytology and blood smear samples.
    • Observe sample preparation for reference laboratory testing.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a 3rd or 4th year AVMA-accredited DVM program.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.
    • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks like bending, crouching, and squatting.
    • Proof of medical insurance, rabies vaccine or titer, tetanus vaccine, and a recent TB test.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Manhattan, New York.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Rolling basis, minimum of two weeks and up to three weeks.
    • Compensation: This is an unpaid externship for credit.
    • Requirements: You must arrange your own housing and transportation.
