About the role#
This externship program offers 3rd and 4th year veterinary students hands-on experience in a clinic environment. You will work directly with patients and doctors to gain exposure to urgent care cases and routine wellness scenarios. The program focuses on mentorship and clinical skill development.
What you'll do#
- Interact with pet parents and review medical records.
- Take patient histories and perform physical exams.
- Observe the development of treatment plans and the creation of estimates.
- Assist the team with administering medications and fluids.
- Place urinary catheters in male dogs and draw blood from Cephalic and Saphenous veins.
- Help identify anatomy using ultrasound.
- Scrub in to assist with procedures and surgeries.
- Prepare and review ear cytology and blood smear samples.
- Observe sample preparation for reference laboratory testing.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the 3rd or 4th year of an AVMA-accredited DVM program.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
- An open mind and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and perform physical tasks like bending, crouching, and carrying equipment.
- Proof of medical insurance, rabies vaccine or titer, tetanus vaccine, and a recent TB test.
- Commitment to upholding confidentiality standards.
