About the role#
This is a 6-month co-op position running from January to June 2027. You will join the Neurology Research Unit, specifically the Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Research Team, which focuses on developing drug candidates that target β-amyloid. You will perform histological and basic biochemistry experiments to support ongoing research programs.
What you'll do#
- Perform high-quality sectioning of brain samples.
- Conduct immunohistological stainings and acquire images using a microscope.
- Analyze staining parameters with ImageJ or similar software.
- Execute tissue homogenizations, fractionations, and ELISA procedures.
- Document all experiments, write protocols, and maintain a clean workspace.
- Read 1-2 relevant research papers per week.
- Compile data and present your findings to the team.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited college, university, or skills program.
- A major in biology with completed coursework in biology, biochemistry, and cell biology.
- Experience in a lab environment and familiarity with general wet lab techniques like pipetting.
- Experience with mouse biopsy handling, including brain tissue and blood.
- Familiarity with microscopy and image analysis.
- Ability to work independently and manage experimental data.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. and at least 18 years of age by the start date.
- Pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is preferred.
