About the role#
We are looking for a motivated co-op to join our Pharmacology team for a 6-month term. You will work under the guidance of a mentor to perform biochemical and cell-based assays that support our pipeline programs. Beyond team support, you will lead an independent project to advance our platform technology. This role offers hands-on experience in how a biotechnology company turns discovery science into practice.
What you'll do#
- Perform cell-based and biochemical assays to support pipeline programs.
- Execute an independent project to advance our platform technology.
- Maintain mammalian cell lines, including transient and stable transfection and the generation of reporter cell lines.
- Conduct bioanalytical assays such as qPCR, Western blot, flow cytometry, and reporter gene assays.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, then present your findings to the Pharmacology team.
- Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks following good documentation practices.
- Collaborate across functional teams, including Computational Design and Chemistry & Screening.
- Present a summary of your project progress and outcomes at the end of your term.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline (Master’s students preferred).
- Coursework or hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture.
- Familiarity with techniques such as qPCR, Western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence staining, TR-FRET, or reporter gene assays.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to keep accurate laboratory notebooks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Prior research, internship, or co-op experience in an academic, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical setting is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Watertown, Massachusetts.
- Term: January 2027 to June 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time (40 hours per week), 5 days per week on-site.
- Eligibility: Open exclusively to current Northeastern University Co-Op students.
- Compensation: $25 - $35 per hour.
