About the role#
Flagship Pioneering is looking for computational scientists and engineers to join our team in Cambridge. You will work with our Origination Teams and fellow ML scientists to explore possibilities beyond current AI capabilities. This role focuses on building a future backwards case for new concepts and evaluating the tradeoffs required to turn ideas into reality.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with Origination Teams and ML scientists.
- Build a future backwards case for concepts and explore tradeoffs across multiple options.
- Develop implementation and evaluation plans to address real uncertainties.
- Implement, evaluate, and iterate on projects using scalable GPU compute resources and ecosystem data.
- Create benchmarking capabilities to measure performance and evaluate designs.
- Provide holistic answers to future backwards questions.
What you'll need#
- Broad interests in computational science and engineering.
- Deep technical experience applying knowledge to out of distribution scientific questions.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals.
- Readiness to embrace agentic development tools and practices.
- Experience implementing machine learning models and workflows across multiple model classes or scientific domains.
- Background in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or Physics.

- Compensation: $7,000 - $9,000 per month.
- Term: Rolling.
