About the role#
This is a 6-month co-op position running from January through June 2027. You will join the Bioassay and High Throughput Screening team to support early drug discovery. The group works with biology and chemistry teams to identify and characterize therapeutic candidates using automated laboratory platforms. You will gain hands-on experience by contributing to screening campaigns, troubleshooting experiments, and improving assay performance.
What you'll do#
- Execute cell-based and biochemical assays to support research programs.
- Prepare reagents, assay plates, and biological samples for screening experiments.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data using specialized tools.
- Document all procedures, results, and conclusions in an electronic laboratory notebook.
- Contribute to assay optimization, automation workflows, and process improvements.
- Optimize assay technology by evaluating parameters like cell density, incubation time, and signal reagents.
- Compare different assay testing formats to improve throughput and reduce reagent consumption.
- Prepare compounds in assay plates for testing.
- Complete an independent project focused on a scientific or operational challenge, culminating in a final presentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited academic program or apprenticeship in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
- Fundamental understanding of biology, biochemistry, or molecular biology.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including pipetting, solution preparation, and experimental documentation.
- Proficiency in serial dilutions and molarity conversions.
- Ability to accurately follow standard operating procedures and execute protocols.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Prior laboratory research experience gained through coursework, academic research, or previous internships.
- Interest in drug discovery, high-throughput screening, or laboratory automation.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. and be at least 18 years of age.
- Familiarity with cell culture, Graphpad Prism, Spotfire, Python, or R is a plus.
