About the role#
This is a full-time co-op opportunity based in Norwood, Massachusetts, running from January 18, 2027, through June 25, 2027. You will join the Flow Cytometry Group within the Clinical Biomarker Laboratory to support the development and refinement of assays that deepen our understanding of immune responses.
What you'll do#
- Perform laboratory experiments, analyze data, and generate reference datasets to inform assay development and decision-making.
- Conduct ex vivo stimulation and high-parameter (≥19-color) Intracellular Cytokine Staining (ICS) assays.
- Screen internal PBMC donors for responses to various antigens using ICS or other established methods.
- Evaluate reagent and sample stability, define assay limitations, and develop guidance for assay use.
- Assess how sample handling and processing affect downstream readouts.
- Execute PBMC isolation procedures and evaluate alternative approaches for cell yield and viability.
- Analyze flow cytometry data using FCS Express software.
- Support experiment planning and execution, including the use of appropriate controls.
- Tabulate and present results using tools such as Smartsheet, Excel, GraphPad Prism, and PowerPoint.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and standard procedures like pipetting.
- Completion of foundational biology coursework, such as cell biology or biochemistry.
- Coursework in immunology is strongly preferred.
- Experience in cell or tissue culture, flow cytometry, in vitro transfection, or protein detection methods (e.g., MSD, ELISA, Luminex) is preferred.
- Prior co-op or internship experience is helpful but not required.
