About the role#
This internship is based on our Engineering team in Austin. You will work on two primary projects. One project is exploratory, focusing on the future of our systems. The other is hands-on, helping to harden the Connexus system we are currently taking into the clinic.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate the capability of our intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) systems.
- Design and run experiments to characterize stimulation behavior and its limits.
- Analyze results to separate real signals from artifacts.
- Map technical tradeoffs like power, charge density, safety, channel count, and hardware complexity against targets for next-generation systems.
- Write findings and recommendations for engineers and scientists.
- Develop and improve automated test coverage for the Connexus system.
- Build and extend automated test infrastructure for end-to-end testing.
- Assemble the benchtop and physical setups required for testing.
- Write tests that push the system under varied, realistic, and adversarial conditions.
- Investigate and document failures surfaced by your tests.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from a program in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, biomedical engineering, or neuroscience. We welcome undergraduate through PhD students.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Comfort with lab hardware, including benchtop instruments, oscilloscopes, soldering, and wiring.
- Experience or coursework in neural interfaces, electrophysiology, or electrical stimulation.
- Familiarity with test automation frameworks like pytest, CI, or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Experience with signal processing or time-series analysis.
- Knowledge of embedded systems, C/C++, or instrument control using SCPI or PyVISA.
- Exposure to regulated development environments such as medical device, aerospace, or automotive fields.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time internship based on-site in Austin, Texas.
- You must be able to work on-site five days per week.
